What is Internal Link?

Internal link is link you used to linked one page to another page in same domain. The links are commonly used in main navigation. Internal link is useful for some reasons, such as :

  • They allow users to navigate a website.
  • They help establish information hierarchy for the given website.
  • They help spread link juice (ranking power) around websites.

Internal linking will help your site to be crawled well by Google search engine, because search engine’s ultimate goal is to surface the very best few pages about a topic on the web.Internal link also measures how important your page to your site. More important some page, more links are build into it.

By internal link, you can also make your site’s rank more up and up, because search engine will identify how many links in your site and how many links come to your page. And they will consider that your site or your page is a good one.

Simple Way to Build Internal Link

To make first move, you can do simple way :

  1. Do mapping of your website. This step is to identify which page is most important, more important than other, and less important. By doing this, you can measure how many links you have to make for each page you consider.
  2. Identify the most topic you often write about. If you have one or more most topic you frequently write about, you can make it as new page so many people can come to that certain page to look up the certain topic. And more, you can make links to the page so people will come there.
  3. Consider whether there are any new page that can be linked to your ranking page. If you have one new post or writing related to your frequently topic, you can link it to your ranking page.

After knowing how to simply make an internal link, now you have to make the right target of your internal link. And here are some pages you may need to link to :

Related products

Link to related products can somehow improve sales as your pages suggest other related products that might be of their interests. However, be careful for this one, because this method may sometimes distract your visitors, depending on its placement. So you have to placed the link at the right spot.

Category and Sub-Category Pages

This one is to make your visitors exploring your site more and more. So they will know much about your site, and even more, about your products.

Product Sales Pages

This is absolutely the main page you have to be linked to. Especially for the eCommerce site, because your goal is to sell your products. Else, you may create separate product information pages that link to your product pages. Product information pages can contain more descriptions or specifications of the offered products that will lead readers to the main product page.

Product Comparison Pages

Comparing your top products will help your visitors in making wise decisions in purchasing and it also generates highly relevant internal links to your top products. This is how you can promote your products more and more. Because with comparing the products, they will look at your other products.

Links from FAQ Pages

You know that FAQ is one of most page that opened by people. And here, beside you can create an internal link to the FAQ pages, you can also create a link from FAQ pages into your most important pages at your website, so people will open the page easily to know more about what are they searching about.

Top Products at Sidebar

This one also can be a good way to build an internal link. You can placed your Top Products at the sidebar and make links to them. Top Products can be more trustworthy than other products that people doesn’t exactly know yet.

Blog Post

Create a blog at your site, and you can do many things with that blog. Because you can freely do anything and make any links through your articles and posts. But remember, your blog post still must have great content to read (check out this post to make a good words for your blog site). Through blog, you can make great content such as written/video reviews, best selling products of the month, newly added products, product A vs. product B, etc. With blog, you also have to use keyword rich anchor text links when linking to your product pages and use images of the posts can link to the product pages.

 

With internal link, you can make sure that you are driving as much traffic to it as possible. You also know how the other pages of your website can contribute value toward your new page. And with great internal linking, ranking for very difficult keyword phrases is made much easier as you share the authority of your other best content with your new efforts.
